HM WebCopy 1.1.1

HM WebCopy is a browser extension for Internet Explorer and Firefox to capture and save the interesting part of Web pages without annoying banner ads as HTML file on your computer. To that, you just can select any desired area of a Web page, click the right mouse button and save the selected area as Web page on your computer. The saved HTML file contains text structure and formatting as similar as possible to those of the original Web page. Version 1.1.1 is a bug fixing release.

HM WebCopy is quite easy to use. Let's say, for example, that you find a news story online that you'd like to save as an HTML document, but you don't want all the ads and other detritus that surround it. Simply highlight the text you want to save, right-click, and selected HM WebCopy from the context menu. A small interface appears that lets you choose the formatting style, file name, and any additional text (such as the date the files was accessed) that you'd like to add.

The program then saves the page as an HTML file with the selected formatting. We tried HM WebCopy in both Firefox and Internet Explorer, and it worked well in both browsers. The add-on isn't perfect; depending on how a particular Web page is formatted, it may or may not be effective. Sometimes you have no choice but to highlight objects that you don't really want in order to get the whole story, and HM WebCopy offers no way to edit these out. Still, the program works well for the most part, and its built-in Help file is well written and thorough.
